Daniel 1:4

Ok. So we have begun to study Daniel at sunday school so let me share a bit of what we're learning...

So, the children of Israel did not listen to the Lord (Jer. 29) and keep the land sabbaths. For this they will be in captivity for a period of 70 years which Jeremiah the prophet spoke (2 Chron 36:21).

Babylon was the empire of the day. They had overthrown the Assyrians and won territory from the Egyptians as well. Their territory was growing more and more. The strategy we see them using is really quite brilliant.
First off, notice that in this case they were young people, no physical defects, good looking, intelligent, knowledgeable and with understanding. These were found for the purpose of service the king's court.
Imagine, first they overthrow them, capture their future leaders and then place them to help lead the enemy kingdom.

How would they do it? How could they make them service in such a capacity? Dazzling them with the greatness and splendor of Babylon....teaching "them the literature and language of the Chaldeans".

The Babylonians understood the importance of teaching. If they could change the way these youths thought, then they could make them useful for their own purposes.

Proverbs 23:7 says "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he...."

God wants to change our thinking. He wants to dazzle us and blow us away with who He is and what He has done. Yet, this has to occur through teaching and from a grace perspective. Our thinking and understanding of who we are (because of His declaring us to be) will never be changed unless we hold important the teaching of the Word and let Him teach us. This changes our worldview to a divine perspective and allows us to see our purpose within God's plan.

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13

Come to continue studying Daniel with us! We've only just started so you haven't missed much. We meet at 10:00am sunday morning at Wilsons Beach Baptist Church. See you there!Ok. So we have begun to study Daniel at sunday school so let me share a bit of what we’re learning…
